Nontraditional Career Training and Development Services
The YWCA Training and Development Center offers opportunities for women and non-custodial parents in nontraditional career exploration, training and employment at no cost. The program has assisted 473 adults in the greater Memphis community overcome barriers inhibiting self-sufficiency by increasing opportunities that lead to high-wage careers in nontraditional training, post-secondary training, apprenticeships, entrepreneurship opportunities and employment. Nontraditional occupations are defined by the Department of Labor as jobs that constitute less than 25% of females in a particular field. The program encourages females to pursue nontraditional occupations (NTO's) because they offer real growth potential. More than 400+ program graduates chose to broaden their approach to entering or re-entering the workforce and were able to obtain economic self-sufficiency because of the employment and training program.
The Training and Development Center of Greater Memphis is a one story multi-purpose building making it wheel chair accessible, with several classroom spaces and an auditorium. A computer lab with internet access and a computer repair lab are also available. Free parking and public transportation are in close proximity as well.
