Abused Women's Services Court Advocacy Program

Court advocates support and assist women in understanding, accessing and navigating through the court system. Accessing the court system can be very threatening and intimidating. Victims of domestic violence may need to go to several offices within the Shelby County Criminal Justice Center or other courts and agencies to obtain necessary information.

Advocates assist clients with acquiring needed assistance and resources to walk through the judicial maze. Court advocates move women and children toward safety and stabilization by providing information and support on victim's rights and compensation, and safety planning strategies. We work to increase the community's knowledge of the effects of domestic violence on children and its cycle.

The purpose of the YWCA - Abused Women's Services Court Advocacy Program is to enable victims of domestic violence to access and navigate through the court system. Court advocates respond to the emotional, educational and referral needs of domestic violence victims in order to empower women to seek safety, independence and healthier violence free lives for themselves and their children.

If you have questions about filing an order of protection, violations of an order of protection or an arrest warrant please contact an AWS court advocate at:
